Why make this recipe

Cherry berry crumble is a delicious dessert that brings together the sweet and tart flavors of cherries and summer berries. It’s quick and easy to make, perfect for a family treat or to impress guests. Plus, using frozen fruits means you can enjoy this dessert any time of the year!

How to make Cherry berry crumble

Ingredients

  • 200g frozen cherries
  • 200g frozen summer fruits
  • 150g plain flour
  • 75g lower-fat spread
  • 30g porridge oats
  • 1 tablespoon demerara or granulated sugar
  • 12 tablespoons low-fat, lower-sugar plain yoghurt, to serve

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (fan oven 160°C, gas mark 4).
  2. Put the frozen cherries and berries into a baking dish (there’s no need to thaw them).
  3. In a large mixing bowl, add the plain flour and lower-fat spread. Rub the spread into the flour with your fingertips until it looks like fine breadcrumbs.
  4. Stir in the porridge oats and sugar.
  5. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the fruit in the baking dish.
  6. Place the dish on a baking tray and bake for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Serve with 2 tablespoons of yoghurt per person.

How to serve Cherry berry crumble

Serve the cherry berry crumble warm, topped with a generous spoonful of low-fat plain yoghurt. It makes a lovely contrast to the warm crumble and adds a creamy texture to the dish.

How to store Cherry berry crumble

If you have leftover crumble, let it cool completely before storing. Keep it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can also freeze it for up to 3 months. Just make sure to wrap it well to prevent freezer burn.

Tips to make Cherry berry crumble

  • For a crispier topping, bake the crumble a little longer until it becomes golden brown.
  • You can swap the frozen fruits for fresh fruits when they are in season.
  • Add spices like cinnamon or nutmeg to the crumble mixture for extra flavor.

Variation

Try adding chopped nuts like almonds or walnuts to the crumble topping for added crunch. You can also mix in some apple slices for a different flavor twist.
