Ingredients
  

For the apple filling
  • 6 cups apples, peeled and sliced Use a mix of sweet and tart apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp.
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice Brightens the flavors of the apples.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Sugar quantity can be adjusted based on the sweetness of the apples.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the crumble topping
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour.
  • 1 cup oats Use gluten-free oats for a gluten-free version.
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Place the apple mixture in a greased baking dish.
Crumble Topping
  1. In a separate bowl, combine the remaining brown sugar, flour, oats, and softened butter until crumbly.
  2. Sprinkle the crumble mixture over the apples evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
Serving
  1. Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of cream.

Notes

To store leftover apple crumble, let it cool completely, cover with plastic wrap or foil, and refrigerate. It should be good for 3 to 4 days. Can also be frozen for longer storage. Adjust spices according to taste.
