Ingredients
  

For the crust
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
For the filling
  • 4 cups sliced apples Use firm and tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
For the glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Stir in the softened butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press half of the mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
Filling
  1. In another bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Spread the apple mixture over the crust.
  2. Crumble the remaining dough over the apples.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  2. Allow to cool before slicing into bars.
  3. To make the glaze, mix powdered sugar and milk until smooth, then drizzle over the cooled bars.

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence. Store in an airtight container for a few days at room temperature or in the refrigerator for about a week. For longer storage, freeze for up to three months.
