Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
- In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in blood orange juice and zest.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, beginning and ending with the flour.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
Baking
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
To serve, you can enjoy the cake plain or dusted with powdered sugar. It pairs well with tea or coffee and can feature a blood orange glaze for extra sweetness.
