Ingredients

For the Marinade
  • 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • to taste salt and pepper
For the Steak
  • 2 pieces New York strip steaks
  • Green onions for garnish (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix the teriyaki sauce, olive oil, honey, garlic powder, and ground ginger to create the marinade.
  2. Place the New York strip steaks in a resealable plastic bag and pour the marinade over them. Seal the bag and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for more flavor.
Grilling
  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  2. Remove the steaks from the marinade and let excess liquid drip off. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Grill the steaks for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  4. Remove the steaks from the grill and let them rest for 5 minutes.
  5. Slice and garnish with chopped green onions if desired. Serve hot.

Notes

Marinate the steak overnight for the best flavor. Use a meat thermometer to check doneness; medium-rare is about 135°F, while medium is 145°F. If you like a bit of heat, add some crushed red pepper flakes to the marinade for extra spice. If you have leftovers, let them cool down and refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat gently to avoid drying out.
