Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar Packed
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup unsalted butter Softened
  • 1 cup walnuts (or pecans) Chopped
Seasonings and Additives
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup yogurt or sour cream Optional for added moisture

Method

Preparation
  1. Gather all the ingredients and preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add the vanilla extract.
Mixing
  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  2. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, being careful not to overmix.
  3. Fold in the chopped apples and nuts.
Baking
  1. Pour the mixture into a greased and floured bundt pan or a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  3. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for a bit before transferring it to a wire rack.
  4. Dust with powdered sugar or frost with cream cheese frosting if desired.

Notes

For best results, use fresh, slightly tart apples. Letting the batter sit for a few minutes before baking can enhance flavors.
