Method
 

Preparation
  1. Take the bone-in prime rib roast out of the refrigerator a few hours before cooking to allow it to come to room temperature.
  2. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Generously sprinkle salt and ground black pepper over all surfaces of the roast.
  4. Place the roast in a heavy roasting pan, ensuring the rib bones are facing down.
Cooking
  1. Cook the roast in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
  2. Lower the oven temperature to 325 degrees Fahrenheit, and cook for approximately 15 minutes per pound for rare, 17 minutes per pound for medium-rare, and 20 minutes per pound for medium.
  3. Once the roast reaches the desired internal temperature, remove it from the oven.
  4. Cover the roasting pan with aluminum foil and let it rest for about 30 minutes before carving.
Serving
  1. Carefully cut and remove any twine, then separate the roast from the bones before slicing.
  2. Arrange the sliced roast on a serving platter, optionally garnishing with fresh herbs.

Notes

For added flavor, consider adding herbs or minced garlic to the seasoning. Serve alongside sides like creamy mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, and gravy for a complete meal. Ensure proper storage for leftovers to maintain freshness.
