  • 1 package soda crackers
  • 1 cup sugar Add an extra tablespoon for a sweeter pie if desired.
  • 1/2 cup butter, unsalted Ensure to use unsalted butter for balanced flavors.
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder Can be substituted with carob powder for a different flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For a vanilla version, omit cocoa and add extra vanilla extract.
  • to taste whipped cream, for topping Add to taste and serve well chilled.
  • to taste berries, for topping Fresh berries make a lovely addition.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Mix in the sugar, milk, cocoa powder, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. In a baking dish, layer the soda crackers first.
  5. Pour a layer of the chocolate mixture over the crackers. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with the chocolate mixture on top.
Baking
  1. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes, or until set.
  2. Let the pie cool completely before serving.
Serving
  1. Serve chilled or at room temperature, topped with whipped cream and fresh berries.

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Allow to cool completely before refrigerating for freshness.
